Hospitals

Can someone explain how hospitals work? While defending a village I just nobled, I had a level 10 hospital (the maximum) and lost 200 units, and exactly 1 guy got revived. What's up with that?

I am having a similar problem, and the Wiki does not address the specifics on how the Hospitals work. How does the game determine what units go into the Hospital?
