Market Appears to be Useless

From what I can tell the market only allows trades of equal amounts of resources. So 1000 of whatever for 1000 of whatever. This renders the market virtually useless.

Notice how many trade offers there are, very few. There are a total of three trade offers within 5 hours of me. All want to trade iron.

So this isn't a "market" it is only a swap spot, but everyone wants to get rid of iron and needs something else.

A market lets supply and demand set the price, or in this case the trade ratio.

So either the name of should be changed from "Market" to "Useless Swap Spot", or the trade ratio should not be restricted to 1:1, it should have no restrictions at all.

Agreed. Real-world markets rely on supply and demand to set prices, but we're stuck at a permanent 1:1 ratio? Then I might as well plan my resource buildings a little smarter and forget about trades entirely. Game theoretically, if I can't profit from having excess Wood or Clay when Iron is dirt cheap, I'd rather shift my excess resources between villages or just straight up burn it. I can assume that if a player is offering Iron, they will benefit from the trade. If I'm not in need of Iron, I have 0 incentive to help a non-allied player by trading 1:1. However, if I see that Iron is offered at a 1:2 rate for Clay, it could change my mind.

My guess is that Innogames has a reason behind this restriction. Specifically, it could be a cost-effective way prevent Pushing (creating an account solely to supply other accounts with resources or other benefits).

It would be great to hear from a moderator or admin, though.

Thank you very much for all the input. I will pass this to the rest of the team and see what they think about it.

It looks like this has been dormant since October, but I want to weigh in... I've played a fair number of games like this (though not the original TW), and this is the least capable market I've ever seen. Allowing supply & demand to alter rates based on people's desperation and willingness to pay is really necessary.

The concern about pushing supply or potential abuse is, in my opinion, unfounded given other aspects of this game. If I wanted to create cities - or alternate accounts - to push supply, I could do that now - I'd simply have to get my market to level 20 (necessary to have enough capacity anyway), and I could send resources freely. If I set up alternate accounts I'd still have to develop villages enough to ensure they're defended or risk them being taken.

Abuse in most games is in setting up food centers to supply centralized armies that are larger than any one city can normally handle, which you address quite effectively given your use of the farm and not having food as a resource.

This may not have the priority of bug fixes, but from my perspective - having played the game for a couple months now and grown used to most of the mechanisms - this, along with the non-persistent chat) is the single biggest shortcoming of TW2.

Thank you for your input, dogamer. This suggestion was already passed to the developers and I don't know what was the discussion they had about it, but I can ask them again to consider this.

though i have a feeling they will like to keep it as is for whatever reason, even if there was a limit to the ratio of goods being traded as 3:1 it would go a long way to helping the econemy of the servers

If possible, if you could also add a feature that you can just use your trade for tribe or tribe and allies that would be awesome. I would feel bad trading wood for iron then that wood gets used to make axemen that then attacks a tribe mate.

There is a tribe only filter on the Market, 3rd tab. But there is no tribe only filter when you make an offer. I would suggest using your tribe forum for trading, specially after lvl 20 Market.
