moving into a new province

i was just wondering if you get a new village in a province can you leave your paladin there and it will still give you the 100% defense modifier or do you have to build a church for that?

The paladin imparts a bonus while accompanying an attacking army. I do not believe he has any impact on faith for being stationed at a village.

no only the church gives faith

Pretty sure a paladin with a Level 5 Rally Point always attacks with 100% faith, even if the source and destination provinces don't have a church/chapel.

You can attack outside of you province with 100% faith when you have a Level 5 Statue.
