Would be interesting concept however I don't think this will happen.

I could see a smaller worlds (maybe 500 x 500 area) with no barbs as a more of a battle royale type thing

There wouldnt be many villages to noble if there wasnt barbs. TW has a cycle. A barb is born, a noob nobles and grows the barb. The skilled player then nobles the noobs nice big village. And repeat

^ In a nut shell. Battle Royale might be cool as well, however you'd still need some type of food. unless you did increased resource income
